An exciting opportunity…

Over the summer break of 2022 the team has gained a new member!

Lilly Cartwright-Tams

Undertaking an internship within POLAR began in August with Professor Sarah Peters and Dr Joanna Goldthorpe. I am a BSc Psychology student going into my final year of my degree in September 2022 with the University of Manchester, aiming to specialise in child and educational psychology. My passion for this project stems from its research into improving child oral healthcare and the impact this will have for families all over the UK.

This is me!

During my time with the team I will be taking on various tasks, such as, working on a new research paper exploring the effectiveness of training for student dentists in communication techniques to initiate behaviour change. This will focus on child oral healthcare. To undertake this research project I will be analysing the data we have collected from the POLAR study as well reviewing literature that explores behaviour change models, such as, COM-B in relation to education in healthcare professions.

Also, during this time I will be responsible for creating and editing the POLAR online training system for dentists and student dentists which will allow for continued development of the scheme for the NHS. Another important task is keeping this website up to date with recent information and up-to-date news.

I am really looking forward to my role this summer and hope to make an impact in the development of POLAR. The opportunity is one of a kind and I am over the moon being able to work with such a dedicated team.
